Even Disney Markets to Parents of New Babies
The Walt Disney Corporation has started a new program reaching out to Parents of New Babies. Late last month, the company quietly began pressing its newest priority, Disney Baby, in 580 maternity hospitals in the United States.
“If ever there was an opportunity for a trusted brand to enter a market and provide a better product and experience, it’s this,” said Robert A. Iger, chief executive of Disney.
Disney estimates the North American baby market, including staples like formula, to be worth $36.3 billion annually. Its executives talk about tapping into that jackpot as if they were waging a war. “Apparel is only a beachhead,” said Andy Mooney, chairman of Disney Consumer Products.
Disney is not the only organization that markets to Parents of New Babies. Companies that sell insurance, automobiles, furniture & clothing, water & air quality dealerships, baby momentos, educational products and health providers are all looking to this highly lucrative market segment.
Marketers don’t have to go to individual hospitals to located Parents of New Babies the way Disney is doing. They can rent a list from a reputable list provider, like Dataman Group, who specializes in quality lists of New Parents, Pre-Natal households and families with Children. These are unique databases and marketers need to make sure they are getting the right list for their needs.
New Parents lists are available as on-going hotlines, or as individual standalone datafiles, enabling marketers to choose their recency and frequency of contact. Marketers can also refine their lists with income and home ownership criteria, fine-tuning their prospects for their best possible results.

Baby Boomer Health Dynamics $3.94 Are the baby boomers in Canada more or less healthy than previous generations? What are the implications of this for the national health care system?" Baby Boomer Health Dynamic" responds to the growing interest in the generation that makes up over one-third of the Canadian population – the largest segment of society – with the leading edge reaching their sixty-fifth birthday in 2011 and eighty-five by 2031. Focusing on four health behaviours that have been proven to be major risk factors for disease: smoking, unhealthy exercise, obesity, and heavy drinking – Andrew V. Wister researches the long-term implications of several key lifestyle-health conundrums, most notably the paradoxical relationship in the concurrent trends over the last two decades of increased exercise levels and a significant rise in obesity. This invariably leads to questions about the eating habits of North Americans, and in particular, the quantity and quality of fast-food and convenience-food consumption. Recent public declarations by a number of health organizations and institutes that we are experiencing an obesity crisis, and moreover, that obesity is the ‘new tobacco’ makes "Baby Boomer Health Dynamics" both timely and topical. |

Health $23.13 The second edition of Mildred Blaxter’s successful and highly respected book offers a comprehensive and engaging introduction to the key debates surrounding the concept of health today. It discusses how health is defined, constructed, experienced and acted out in contemporary developed societies, drawing on a range of empirical data from the USA, Britain, France, and many other countries. The new edition has been thoroughly revised and updated, with new material added on health and identity, the "new genetics," the sociology of the body, and the formation of health capital throughout the life course. The topic is the concept of health, rather than the more usual emphasis on illness and health-care systems. Special emphasis is given to the lay perspective to show how people themselves think about and experience health. Blaxter guides students through all the relevant conceptual models of the relationship of health to the structure of society, from inequality in health to the ideas of the risk society, the ‘socio-biological translation’ and the contribution of health to social capital. The book concludes with a comprehensively revised and thought-provoking discussion of the impact of new technology, the boundaries between life and death, modern commodification of health, technological transformations of the body and theories of evolutionary biology."Health" is an invaluable textbook for students of medicine and other health professions as well as those studying sociology, health sciences and health promotion. |
